Chrissy's Old Fashioned Custard Bread Pudding

Perfect Extremely Easy Autumn Recipe. 

I do not like soggy bread, and I do not care for certain textures either. So this old recipe is more like a baked cake than what most consider bread pudding.  It is so good and perfect for fall with the warm spices and amazing aroma of cinnamon wafting through your home. It just feels good. 

*Bakers Note* 
Feel free to add 1/2 cup of chopped apple, pears, or any of your favorite kinds of fruit, coconut, or chocolate chips


2 Cups Whole Milk
1 Cup Heavy Cream
4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
6 Eggs
1 Tsp. Vanilla
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/4 Tsp. Salt
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Golden Raisins
1 Shot Whisky or Bourbon (optional)
5 Cups Bread Cubed (8-10 slices or 1 loaf french bread) 
1/4 Tsp Cinnamon
1/8 Tsp. Nutmeg
1/8 Tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice


In small saucepan mix butter, brown sugar, Whisky, and raisins. On Med-Low heat melt butter and stir until sugar is incorporated and not granulated but more like a syrup. remove from heat and let cool. 

In 9 x 13 baking pan put your cubed bread and spread it out evenly. I like to tear it apart by hand instead of cut it. I also pack it in and set a heavy pan on top of a small plate to push it down. 

In Medium bowl combine eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla, white sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin spice. Whisk well. 

Once saucepan syrup is cool slowly whisk in your syrup to your egg mixture. 

Next slowly pour over your bread in your baking dish. 

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 

Using a large spoon or a potato masher press down on the bread to absorb the egg mixture, mashing it all together and allowing the bread to absorb the moisture. Let sit for 15 min. 

Lastly set your 9 x 13 pan inside of a larger pan if you have one and add water to the outside pan half way up the sides of the dish. This is known as a water bath. If you do not have a larger pan bake your pudding for 45 Min. If using a water bath 55 min. (Until butter knife can be inserted towards the center and it comes out clean. 

Remove from oven and let sit 20 min. Cut and serve! It is so amazing you will fall in love with this recipe!
